About Us
Riders Against Drugs is a drug education group that formed up in the winter of 2006. Snowboarder Nikki Dale has met all sorts of people through the sport, and at one point realized that too great a percentage of athletes he encountered were involved in drugs. That wake up call led to his founding of Riders Against Drugs.
RAD has since teamed up with Foundation for a Drug Free World to bring a series of
10 Truth About Drugs booklets to you. Each is an important tool in our effort to
share with you the facts about drugs and their effects. For more information on these booklets, visit
DrugFreeWorld.org.
Mission Statement
Riders Against Drugs is changing the general attitude of people toward drugs. This is accomplished by educating people on the harmful effects of drugs, so they can make a decision based on information that is neither hype nor rumor.
What Kinds of Riders?
RAD Founder, Nikki Dale is a snowboarder and a skateboarder, but he wanted to help more than just the board sports, so he decided to go with the term "riders". The word "riders" includes everybody - snowboarders, skateboarders, BMX riders, mountain bikers, motorcycle riders, surfers, horseback riders, scooter riders, mountain boarders, in-line skaters, water skiers, snow skiers, and more. Whether you're a professional rider, a beginner, or just someone who would one day like to try riding, Riders Against Drugs is here to help you and people like you.
Drug Education - Truth About Drugs
There are two different forms of drug education currently offered by Riders Against Drugs. The one used most frequently at this time is the Truth About Drugs booklets as offered by the Foundation for a Drug Free World. RAD has raised funds to support purchasing booklets, so they can be passed out at different events and sometimes just on the streets. There are ten different booklets: one about drugs in general, and nine about specific drugs. These booklets have been thoroughly tested, and they've proven to effectively educate people about drugs, and encourage the reader to decide to be drug free.
The other form of drug education offered by Riders Against Drugs is Drug Education Lectures. RAD members are trained in a basic drug lecture that takes 20-40 minutes. This lecture has been used for thousands of presentations, and extensive surveys show the lecture works really well. It isn't "preachy", and it doesn't use scare tactics; it just gives a few basic facts about all drugs with lots of examples. The lecture makes the attendees stop and think, "Wow. Drugs can be pretty harmful. I'm going to be drug free."
